Baltimore creates innovative solutions to address skills shortages
Baltimore is expanding rapidly and developing a significant skills shortage .The results of a recently -revived Maryland Business Climate Survey which looked at responses from senior executives at 250 Maryland businesses during the second quarter of 2018 found that over 56% of their firms had trouble finding workers with the necessary skills to fill specific job requirements .
Indeed most companies 435 ,reported shortages associated with long-term workers ,not short-term workers .However .31% reported problems finding both short-term and long-term workers.
The report also found that 30% of businesses consider the lack of skilled workers as the most important issue facing their business
Jobs are available in all occupations and sectors and as the labour market tightens wage rates are rising meet the shortages.
Baltimore County has launched Jon Connector ,an innovative $2.5 million workforce program designed to assure employers have a workforce ready to fill high-demand jobs in high -demand fields, but chronic shortages of qualified workers remains in many fields.
Research prepared by the Baltimore County Workforce Development Board identified nine key industries that will drive 75% of the job growth in Baltimore County over the next decade ,Healthcare, Corporate Operations/Customer Service ,Construction ,Financial Services, Manufacturing ,Federal Agencies, Port/Logistics/Distribution ,Education and Information Technology .
