Job Description: HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) Driver – Texas, USA

Position Title: HGV Driver (Heavy Goods Vehicle Driver)

Reports To: Fleet Manager/Logistics Supervisor


Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and experienced HGV Driver to join our team in Texas. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting goods and materials safely and efficiently across the state and beyond. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to adhere to delivery schedules.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Transportation of Goods:
    • Safely operate heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to transport goods and materials to designated locations.
    • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of shipments.
  2. Vehicle Maintenance:
    • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in good working condition.
    • Report any mechanical issues or defects to the maintenance team.
    • Maintain cleanliness and proper upkeep of the vehicle.
  3. Compliance with Regulations:
    • Adhere to all federal, state, and local transportation laws and regulations.
    • Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, rest periods, and mileage in compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
  4. Customer Service:
    • Interact professionally with customers during deliveries.
    • Handle paperwork, including delivery receipts and invoices, accurately and efficiently.
  5. Safety and Security:
    • Ensure cargo is properly secured and undamaged during transit.
    • Follow safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
  6. Route Planning:
    • Plan efficient routes to meet delivery deadlines while minimizing fuel consumption.
    • Adapt to traffic, weather, or other unforeseen circumstances to ensure on-time delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Valid HGV (CDL Class A) License issued by the state of Texas.
  • Clean driving record with no major violations.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an HGV driver.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and road safety practices.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and perform physical tasks as required.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with long-haul or interstate deliveries.
  • Familiarity with GPS and route-planning software.
  • Hazmat endorsement (if applicable).

Working Conditions:

  • Schedule: Flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Environment: Primarily on the road, with exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Physical Demands: Prolonged sitting, lifting, and occasional manual labor.
