Massachusetts concern at lack of skilled workers.

As Massachusetts unemployment rate dropped to just 2% the lowest since January 2001 policy makers and employers are very concerned that the economy in the state is fast approaching full capacity and unless creative and innovative solutions are found to address the skilled labour shortages Massachusetts economy will be unable to grow further.

The lack of skilled workers is also resulting in wages rising rapidly for skilled manufacturing and construction workers .

In some sectors the situation is critical. It takes 4 times as long to fill a role in the booming life Sciences sector than is did in 2016

In Boston policy makers have signed a new economic development bill which includes grants to help community colleges ,vocational ,career and technical schools purchase up-to-date equipment and focus on teaching skills essential for the jobs that are available today in Boston.

Boston is looking for creative and innovative programs to address the skills gap and Back 4 Good -Your future in Boston is operating in the city with direct invitations to the Boston Diaspora to have a look at the roles available in the city and to consider returning to Boston to live and work.

The current Labour shortage is very good for those considering taking up the many available opportunities in Boston with wage rates rising rapidly and extra incentives on offer along with the compensation package.

The difficulties of recruiting in a tight labour market means that jobs are open for longer periods with the search for qualified workers becoming more difficult, for returnees this works in their favour as they have time to plan their return and secure a strong package to cover the costs of their return.
